How do I fix special characters in an exported CSV file?

Sometimes, certain characters may appear unreadable after exporting a CSV file.

This issue is usually related to the file’s encoding. When you double-click a CSV file, some versions of Excel do not automatically open it with the correct encoding (UTF-8). As a result, accents and special characters may display incorrectly.

Follow these steps to open the file properly in Excel:
  1. Open a blank Excel file.
  2. Click the File tab and select Import.
  3. Choose CSV file as the file type to import.
  4. Select your file and click Get Data.
  5. In the import options, choose CSV – Unicode (UTF-8) as the file format.
  6. Make sure the delimiter is set to Semicolon (;), then click Next.
  7. Confirm the column format and click Finish.
  8. Choose where you want the data to appear, then click Import.
Your file should now display correctly, with accents and special characters properly formatted.
