Is it possible to send a receipt to the client as soon as the invoice is marked as paid?

Absolutely! Here's how:
  1. Mark the invoice as paid by going to the Invoicing section of the client’s record. Find the invoice in question, click on the action menu on the right, and select Mark as paid.
  2. Check the "Send receipt by email" box at the bottom of the window.

The email addresses saved in the client’s profile will automatically appear. You can send the receipt to up to 3 recipients and add or remove addresses as needed.
